day 4 - week1

Well - today would have been quiet, it was as far as contruction is concerned but not for the kidlets. Today was registration day at the middle school and both were very excited and maybe a little bit nervous too, at least Jordan was. It will be different having 2 teens in the house - I hope the remodel survives it.

Jordan had a quote printed in the Irvine World News today for the play he is in that opens this Saturday, Annie. I think they misquoted him - but I won't tell him that. Here is a picture taken during rehearsal:

Day 3 week 1

Today was pretty uneventful - but that was a welcomed feeling. At about 3pm all subcontractors showed up and ideas and planning went crazy - it was a fun process to witness and be apart of. Lighting and electrilcal were finalized - cabinet space was measured and flooring was discussed. With the Labor day weekend we will be quiet until next Tuesday when walls come back and a new door to the garage gets installed.

Day 2 week 1

So they came and "floated" my floor. More dust! The floor where the addition was had a lump where they joined the foundation. So - in order to have tile or wood (haven't completely made up my mind yet) the floor had to be ground down and floated with a substance to level it out. It worked. Wednesday we get to sleep in, go check out some lighting, have the door to the garage replaced, meet with the cabinet maker, electrition and designer.

Here is my new dining room - And the floating of the floor

And my neigbors love this!
It's from the A-Throne Company.

Demolition Day!

After a week or so of packing and moving furniture - we were ready for today to start (I think). The doorbell rang promptly at 7 am as promised and the commotion began. It was exhilarating, frightening, exhausting and nerve wrecking all at the same time. BAM! It was gone by 11:30 and then clean up started. Now maybe I can sleep tonight, just maybe – once I wash off this fine layer of dust. Here are a few before and after shots:

1st project done - YEAH

Okay - we've finished the BBQ and have it in place ready to use during the remodel. Looks great doesn't it? We broke it in last weekend and used it this week - it will get lots of use in the up coming months.

We had another garage sale today, just to get rid of 5 years of junk and to make room for the furniture in the garage for storage during the remodel.

Demolition starts a week from Monday - please pray for our sanity!

BBQ almost done ...

Well it's Wednesday evening and we are getting closer with the BBQ. They are working hard - and are trying to finish up tomorrow - they have another job to get to. We decided on a little decoration by using a gray slate porcelain tile on the counter surface with some small tiles at the edges to tie in the brick to the slate. I can almost smell the steaks now…

Project 1 has begun!

The first project started last week. That project is the new BBQ. We have tore out the planter and old built-in and have had new brick laid and frame work started. With any luck it should be done this week... BBQ on Saturday!!! Here are before and in-progress pictures. Once it is complete - I will post the beautiful new BBQ. We're going to need it for cooking for sure because August 28th the major stuff starts!
