Time keeps flying by...
On January 28th, a day after Lauren's 13th birthday - I decided to take a trip...down the stairs. It's taken me forever to get back here, just like it's taken my leg forever to heal. But good news - it is healing.
I ended up taking an ambulance to Irvine Regional were they gave me wonderful drugs so I wouldn't notice the break (as much) and Lauren wouldn't leave myside so she spent the night with me in the hospital - then went from there to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, the next morning (11ish) where Dr. Andrew Gerken proformed surgery on my left tibia/fibula by inserting a rod down the center of the bone (around midnight). That was my cast. No external casting at all. The picture is not my leg - but it r
epresents exactly what was done.
I then proceeded to spend 2 months on the familyroom couch with my Mom coming over each day to help for the first month. Dad picked up the pace on Thursday's by bringing over paperwork for a client to my home office so I could work on my laptop to keep my clients happy.
After 2 months I began physical therapy (end of March) and slowly (and I mean slowly) began to get back to reality. I have since stopped physical therapy and have been exercising it myself (don't worry the orthoped said it was all right). Not only do I have to strengthen my leg but I have to take off the additional pounds put on by sitting. So for now - it's the eliptical, weights and walking. I'll be trying a bike real soon.
